MANCHESTER, N.H. – With two goals in the first and three in the second, St. Anselm College (10-4-0, 5-4-0 ECAC East) handed women's ice hockey (5-7-2, 3-5-1 ECAC East) a 5-0 ECAC East conference loss Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena.
St. Anselm wasted little time getting on the scoreboard netting the afternoon's first goal just three minutes into the opening period. Six minutes later they made it a two goal game. UMass Boston was able to recover defensively for the last 11 minutes of the first period.
However in the second, St. Anselm knocked in their third goal of the game in the first four minutes of the period. They then sealed the win with a power-play goal at 13:32 and an even strength goal with 14 seconds left in the period.
On the day, St. Anselm controlled the contest from start to finish as they outshot UMass Boston 53-11. Their power-play finished 2-for-4, while the Beacons went 0-for-2 in the loss.
Senior Leah Hallett's (Rocky Hill, Conn.) busy afternoon came to a close 48 saves, while Amy Zappen posted 11 saves in the victory.
Women's hockey returns to action next Friday when they travel to Plymouth State University for a 6 p.m. ECAC East conference game.
