HENNIKER, N.H.—Led by Teraysa White's 33 saves the Pilgrims of New England College (2-5-1, 2-3-1 ECAC East) defeated women's hockey (4-5-2, 3-4-1 ECAC East) by the final score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon in an ECAC East conference match-up.
Scoring the lone goal for the Beacons in Saturday's contest was sophomore Tori PIzzuto (Waterbury, Conn.), on the power-play. The Connecticut native cut the Pilgrim's lead to one, with that goal, which she fired into the back of the net off of a Kayla Kiernan (North Smithfield, R.I.) pass.
The Pilgrims would start the scoring early as Chelsie Boroski would net her first goal of the season firing in a pass from Madyson Moore just 1:17 into the opening period. NEC would extend their lead to 2-0 midway through the first as Aubrey Fischer would take advantage of a Pilgrim power-play scoring her third goal of season assisted by Samantha Hippern and Ashley Bonner.
NEC would regain the two goal lead four minutes into the second period as Kate Kellar would put in a loose puck assisted by Kaleigh Costello and Moore. The two teams would battle through the remainder of the second period scoreless as the Pilgrims would head into the final period up 3-1.
The Beacons would battle on offense in the final period out shooting NEC 14-10 but the Pilgrims would kill four power-plays and tack on an empty-netter off the stick of Aubrey Fischer to solidify the 4-1 victory.
UMass Boston finished the game with the 34-32 advantage in shots on net. Senior netminder Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tallied 28 saves in the contest.
Women's hockey will return to competition on January 2 when they face Sacred Heart University at 1 p.m. as part of the 5th Annual Codfish Bowl.
