Owls Fly Past Women's Basketball in LEC Tournament

KEENE, N.H. – Led by a game-high 16 points from Sara Laudano Keene State College (17-8) defeated women's basketball (8-18) by the final score of 54-31 Tuesday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium in the quarterfinal round of the Little East Conference.

The Beacons who were making their first conference tournament appearance under head coach Courtney Mattingly, had a tough afternoon as they shot just 15.9% from the field in the contest.  The meeting between the two programs was only the third in the history of the Little East Conference tournament.  Keene State has now won all three meetings with the Beacons.

For UMass Boston, it was senior Elizabeth Dow (Marshfield, Mass.) who led the Beacons with 11 points.  Freshman Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.), who was named Little East Conference and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week, and who became the first player in program history to be named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, posted a game-high 12 rebounds.

Morrison also dropped in six points in Tuesday's match-up.  Right behind her was freshman Lauren Perra (Taunton, Mass.) with six points and senior Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, Mass.) with five points.

Keene State also had Siobhan Carnell finish in double-figures as she dropped in 10 points.  Meghan Farrell led the Owls on the glass as she grabbed nine boards in the win.

The first half proved to be the tougher of the two for the Beacons as they shot 10.0% from the floor.  Keene State used 43.8% shooting to jump out to a 35-10 lead at the break.  In the second half both teams were fairly even, as UMass Boston managed to outscore the Owls 21-19.

Tuesday's contest marked the final in the careers of Rattigan and Dow.
