Jared Hawn enters his fifth season of collegiate coaching and his second season at UMass Boston. He currently serves as Assistant Cross Country Coach and Distance Coach for the indoor and outdoor Track and Field teams.
As former Head Coach at Clarks Summit University in Clarks Summit, PA, Hawn brings tremendous knowledge and experience to the harbor campus. At his alma mater—the same university at which he would later coach—Hawn was a four-year member and two-year captain of the Cross Country team. Since leaving college, his emphasis on inclusion and approachability among student-athletes has drawn increasing numbers of participants into his distance programs, where each runner is trained as an individual so as to maximize his or her success.
Hawn earned a Bachelor of Science with concentrations in Philosophy, Theology and English, and he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at UMass Boston. He also serves as a research assistant at Harvard University. While working as a Cross Country and distance coach over the past five years, he has concurrently worked in the realms of undergraduate Admissions counseling, Latin language instruction, running specialty footwear, and language acquisition research.
