Men’s Track and Field Finishes Third At Plymouth State Winter Classic

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With a trio of first place finishes, men's track and field earned a third place finish out of 10 teams as the Beacons recorded a combined 86 points Saturday afternoon at the Plymouth State University Winter Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Earning first place finishes for UMB was Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) in the 500-meter run, William Barrett (Everett, Mass.) in the 1,000-meter run, and Julian Collins (Asheville, N.C.) in the weight throw.

Higgins posted a final time of 1:10.58 beating out his closes competitor by .28 seconds.  For Barrett, his top time came in at 2:48.25, defeating Plymouth State's Matthew Lyles by .27 seconds.  Collins' first place throw was an impressive one as he registered a final distance of 46-11.50 feet to earn the full 10 points. 

In the 60-meter dash Logan Mitchell (Franklin, Mass.) earned the fastest time for the Beacons as he crossed the finish line with a time of 7.58 seconds.  Xavier Hill (Hyde Park, Mass.) led the way in the 200-meter dash with his time of 25.14 seconds.  Khorey James clocked in with a time of 1:00.44 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Christian Hodgson (Leeds, Mass.) and Jonathan Hodge (Waltham, Mass.) joined Higgins in the 500 as they recorded times of 1:10.83 and 1:15.04 respectively.  Cameron Chase (Lutz, Fla.) and Anthony Lynch (Brockton, Mass.) recorded top-10 finishes in the 800-meter run as Chase finished in fifth (2:07.44), while Lynch earned ninth (2:14.92). 

Chase nearly earned a first place finish of his own as he recorded a time of 4:39.41 to earn second in the one mile run.  Jimmy Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) collected a fifth place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:33.45.  Hill qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles after recording a prelim time of 9.18 seconds.  In the finals he finished in fourth place with a time of 9.27 seconds.

In the high jump Prosper Lubega (Watertown, Mass.) recorded an impressive jump of 5-10.00 feet.  Mitchell finished seventh place in the long jump (19-10.25 ft), while in the triple jump Hill finished in second place with a leap of 41-08.00 feet.  Collins would also compete in the shot put and finished in 11th place with a throw of 36-02.25 feet.  Jacey Kretas (Townsend, Mass.) finished in 15th place with a throw of 33-04.75 feet.

The Beacons will return to action on January 20 when they compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational in Cambridge.
