Track and Field Competes at Ramapo College Indoor Select

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A total of five personal bests were recorded at the 2014 Ramapo College Indoor Select, which was held at the New Balance Armory in New York City Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's marked the first-time in program history that the Beacons competed at the Ramapo Indoor Select.  Sophomore sprinter Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) led the way for the women's team with her fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash (58.02), while Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) recorded a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with her time of 26.21 seconds.

For the men's team newcomer Kelly Desane (Cambridge, Mass.) earned a new career best time in the 200 meter dash as he crossed the finish line with a time of 23.67 seconds.  It was also in the 200 that Christopher Sian-Aguirre (Holbrook, Mass.) earned a new top time with his final mark of 24.50 seconds. 

The long jump saw two Beacons record new personal bests first with Xavier Romero (Phoenix, Ariz.) leaping his way to an 11th place finish with a jump of 20-05.75 feet.  Sian-Aguirre posted a distance of 18-02.25 feet to earn 22nd place. 

Also in action on Saturday was Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) as the sophomore sprinter finished the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.43 seconds.  She would then finish in 33rd place in the 200 with a time of 28.49 seconds. Senior Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 16th place in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:32.52. 

The women's 4x400 meter relay team earned an 11th place finish after posting a combined time of 4:10.25 seconds.  O'Brien then finished in 12th place in the high jump with a leap of 4-11.00 feet.  McGuffie grabbed an eighth place finish in the long jump after recorded a final jump of 16-08.00 feet.

In the throwing events it was Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.) who recorded a ninth place finish with her throw of 34-11.75 feet in the shot put.  Senior Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) earned a 20th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 35-10.00 feet. 

In the men's 60 meter dash, Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) led three Beacons sprinters with his time of 7.43 seconds.  Shawn Lawson (Westford, Mass.) finished one-hundredth of a second (7.44) behind his teammate to earn 26th place.  Desane posted a 33rd place finish with his time of 7.56 seconds. 

Lawson would then lead UMass Boston in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.07 seconds.  Gustave grabbed a 23rd place finish with a time of 23.41 seconds.  In the 400 meter dash it was Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) earning a time of 54.71 seconds. 

Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) earned a fourth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-06.00 feet to earn his best jump of 2014. 

The long jump saw Quang Le (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) join Romero and Sian-Aguirre. Le would record a jump of 18-09.00 feet to earn 20th place. 

Track and Field returns to action next Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Boston University Terrier Classic.
