BOSTON, Mass. – After perhaps one of the most memorable and record setting freshman seasons, high jumper Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) will have the opportunity to represent UMass Boston at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet at Burns Stadium on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, California on Friday, May 25.
The Brockton native will compete against the top-20 high jumpers in Division III at approximately 8:45 pm Eastern Standard Time on Friday.
With his qualification, Joseph will look to cap-off a tremendous freshman season with UMass Boston track and field. Currently Joseph is ranked fifth in the country with a qualifying height of 6-10.25 feet. Looking to become the first All-American and National Champion in the history of the outdoor track and field program, Joseph has leaped his way to a total of six first place finishes, which included winning gold at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship, the NCAA Division III New England Regional, and most recently the ECAC Outdoor Championship this past Friday.
Also a member of the UMass Boston men's basketball program, Joseph arrived on the track and field scene in a big way winning his first ever college meet on March 24. From there, Joseph would earn the top height in every meet but one and would go on to earn a conference best six Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honors in the process.
