PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For the first time this season, UMass Boston men's tennis freshman Roy Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) earned Little East Conference Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Platteel finished a perfect 4-0 on the week, to help UMass Boston extend their winning streak to six in a row against Division III competition.
He teamed up with his brother Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) to record a pair of 8-0 wins at third doubles.
In singles play, Roy opened the week with a 7-5, 7-5 win at third singles over Richie Hefler. He tacked on a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Western Connecticut State at third singles on Saturday.
The brothers Platteel improved to 8-0 overall in doubles play with their two victories. Roy ranks second on the roster, behind only his brother Ray (10), in doubles victories with eight.
Overall, Roy has helped the Beacons start the LEC season undefeated (4-0), by going 6-0 in conference matches.
UMass Boston will play three matches this week, starting with a home match against Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
