FAYETVILLE, N.C.—Host Methodist University dropped just three doubles games en-route to a 9-0 victory over UMass Boston men's tennis on Tuesday afternoon at Monarch Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The host Monarchs earned their third win in the last week, to spoil the Beacons' Spring Break opener.
Methodist jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to their strong doubles play. The Monarchs won 8-0 at first doubles, 8-2 at second doubles and 8-1 at third-flight doubles.
UMass Boston had slightly more success during singles play.
Sophomore Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) had the best result for the Beacons. After dropping the first set at third singles, he battled back and forth in the second set before falling 6-0, 6-3.
Junior Tin Tran (Quincy, Mass.) was the only other Beacon to win multiple games in singles. He grabbed two games in the first set, before falling 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Freshman Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) made his collegiate debut in the loss. Beltran appeared at first doubles and second singles.
- Adam Acker (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Sal Albano (Haverhill, Mass.) played an exhibition match at fourth doubles and seventh and eighth singles.
- Tuesday's match marked the first-ever meeting between UMass Boston and Methodist University.
UMass Boston will travel to Ashland, Virginia on Wednesday to take on host Randolph-Macon University at 4 p.m.
