Comerchero 3-Peats: Freshman Picks Up Third-Straight LEC Rookie of the Week Award

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For a third-consecutive week, UMass Boston freshman Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) was named the Little East Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Comerchero went 2-0 at third singles and helped UMass Boston snap a five-match losing streak against three-time defending Little East Conference Champion University of Southern Maine.

On Thursday, Comerchero was the lone Beacon to win a match, in the Beacons' 8-1 road loss at Endicott College. The freshman defeated Jack DeRizzo 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, to help the Beacons avoid a sweep at the hands of the Gulls.

He tacked on a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win at Southern Maine on Saturday, to improve to 2-0 in three-set singles matches.

On the season he is 5-5 in singles play and has won five-consecutive singles matches. He leads the team with his nine total victories and is tied for first in doubles wins (four) with his first doubles partner: Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico).

Men's Tennis will host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before hosting Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their final home match of the regular season.
