Comerchero Collects Second-Straight LEC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week Award

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For the second-consecutive week, UMass Boston freshman Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) earned Little East Conference Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

The freshman helped men's tennis improve to 2-0 in Little East play, by putting together a dominant display against Rhode Island College. 

Comerchero went 2-0 on the day, with victories at first doubles and third singles. He teamed up with Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico) for a dominant 8-0 win at first doubles. In singles play, Comerchero swept Lee Tiberi by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores to improve to 4-0 in conference play.

Since returning from an injury he suffered in Florida, Comerchero is 6-0 and has not dropped a set in singles play. Overall he has won four-straight doubles matches and three singles matches, after starting his collegiate career with eight-straight losses.

Comerchero and the Beacons will travel to Endicott College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., before traveling to take on two-time defending LEC Champion University of Southern Maine on Saturday at 1 p.m.
