Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 26 MIT in 2014 Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In their first match of the 2014 season, men's tennis faced one of their toughest challenges to-date as they took on 26th ranked MIT (3-1) Friday afternoon.  The Engineers who are also ranked sixth in New England defeated the Beacons (0-2) by the final of 9-0.

The afternoon got started with a hard fought first flight doubles match as Sean Cullen (Medway, Mass.) and Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) batted MIT's Edwin Zhang and Curtis Wu.  The two teams battled back-and-forth but the decision would ultimately go to the Engineers as they earned an 8-6 decision.

MIT would then take second and third doubles by the finals of 8-0, 8-0.

Moving into singles play, Cullen dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Zhang at first flight, while at second flight Lai played another hard match as he took on Dennis Garcia.  Garcia would take set one by a narrow decision (7-6), before earning a 6-0 win in the second set.

The Engineers then earned 6-0, 6-0 wins in the final four flights to secure the 9-0 victory, their second of the 2013-14 season.

Men's Tennis returns to action on March 14 when they take on Bentley University in Orlando, Florida as part of their 2014 spring trip.
