BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston men's tennis will make their NCAA Tournament debut Thursday afternoon when they take on Skidmore College in the First Round of the 44-team tournament at Williams College's Torrence M Hunt '44 Tournaments Courts. The Beacons match is scheduled to begin around 11 a.m.
The Beacons (14-3) will be making their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing their first Little East Conference Tournament crown since 1990 Saturday, when they defeated two-time defending champions UMass Dartmouth in the LEC Championship match.
Head coach Eric Berg's squad is enjoying the best season in program history and already holds the program marks for wins (14) and for consecutive wins (12).
Skidmore College (11-8) entered last week as the number 27 team in the nation and finished as the Liberty League runner-ups to Vassar College. The Thoroughbreds will be making their sixth consecutive NCAA Appearance under head coach Nathan Simms.
UMass Boston and Skidmore College will join Colby-Sawyer University, Nichols College and MIT in the Williams College pod. The winner of the Beacons and Thoroughbreds will go on to face MIT in the Second Round on Saturday, with the winner of the match, playing for a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals on the line Sunday.
