NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the second time in three weeks, UMass Boston senior Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Monday's honors mark the third time Loyer has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week and fourth straight week a Beacons has earned the award.
Loyer posted a 2-0 mark in singles play on the week and added a pair of doubles victories alongside co-captain Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.), to help run UMass Boston's winning streak to eight straight.
In his two singles victories, Loyer won all but one game, to move his record to 11-2 in singles action on the year. The four total victories extended his personal winning streak to 17 straight, including nine in a row in singles play.
The second-year player for the Beacons leads the Little East Conference with 20 total victories and has yet to lose a conference match in single or doubles play (8-0).
With his match-clinching victory at number two singles on Sunday, the Beacons became just the third team n program history to reach double digits in victories, earning its 10th victory with an 8-1 win over Johnson & Wales University.
Loyer and the Beacons have a chance to claim their first Little East Conference title since 1990 with a pair of victories this week, as they close out the the regular season with conference tilts against Western Connecticut State University and Bridgewater State University.
