NORTH DARTMOUTH—For the second time in his two-year career, senior captain Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The award marks the second straight week a Beacons has been recognized by the Little East, as senior Sean Cullen (Medway, Mass.) took home Player of the Week honors last week.
Loyer posted a 2-0 record at third-flight singles to help UMass Boston down defending conference champions Suffolk University (GNAC) and UMass Dartmouth (Little East).
The senior won each of his singles matches in straight sets, as he downed Dan Chouinard of UMass Darmtmouth 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday. Loyer also combined with junior captain Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) to post a perfect 2-0 mark at number two doubles.
The UMass Boston victory over UMass Dartmouth marked the first win for the Beacons over the Corsairs since 2007 and snapped UMD's 13-game conference regular-season winning streak.
