KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez defeated UMass Boston (2-2) 9-0 Thursday afternoon at the Oak Street Park Community Center.
Two days after earning their first win of the spring, UMB could get nothing going against the Division II Bulldogs.
Puerto Rico-Mayaguez won every singles match in straight sets and proceeded to sweep the doubles matches, with each Beacons pair falling by an 8-3 margin.
Sophomore David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia) and Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, Mass.) put up the best results for the Beacons; as Hernandez fell 6-4, 6-3 at number one singles, while Bizhoti went down by a 7-5, 6-1 margin.
Senior captain Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the only other player to win more than three games in singles play, as he fell at second singles 6-2, 6-3.
UMass Boston will look to finish their Florida trip with a .500 record Friday, when they take on Hope College (Mich.) at Noon in Orlando.
