KISSIMMEE, Fla.---Behind wins at the first five singles spots, UMass Boston (2-1) men's tennis rolled to a 6-3 win over North Central College (Ill.) (3-5) Tuesday morning at the Star Island Resort.

After falling behind 2-1 after doubles action, the Beacons won four straight singles matches to earn the victory, and took five of the six overall single contests.

The Beacons top doubles pair led the way, as David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia) and Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) combined to win at number one doubles and number one and number three singles.

North Central College got off to a good start with a win at number three doubles, as Jesse Adamson and Mason Sass downed Lyle Analetto (Belmont, Mass.) and Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) 8-3. The combination of Lai and Hernandez evened the score at 1-1 with an 8-2 win at number one doubles, but the Cardinals took the lead right back with an 8-6 win over Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, Mass.) and Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) at second flight doubles.

That's when the Beacons turned it on. After dropping all six singles matches the night before against Nichols College, UMB handled North Central College in the second half of the match.

Lai got UMB off to a good start with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles and Loyer put the Beacons ahead for good with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles.

The Beacons continued their run when Bizhoti captured a 6-2, 6-0 contest in number five singles, and UMB secured the victory when Hernandez finished up his 6-4, 6-0 win at number one singles.

North Central earned their only win of the day in singles at number six singles, as Connor Hills defeated Jay Garcia (Madras, Ore.) 6-2, 6-2.

Finally, in the most even singles match of the day, Shavers knocked off Adamson 6-0, 1-6, 10-7, to earn his first win of 2013.

UMass Boston will look for their first two-game winning streak of the 2012-13 season, when they play the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Thursday afternoon at Noon in Kissimmee.
