Coming in second on this year's preseason poll was Southern Maine who received the final two first place votes as well as earning 38 points.  Bridgewater State University was selected third after collecting 32 points.

After the Beacons it was Western Connecticut State University in fifth with 20 points, followed by Salem State University in sixth with 18 points, and Rhode Island College in seventh with 17 points.

Already off to a great start the Beacons currently sit with a 4-1 record, which includes a 3-1 finish during their spring trip in Florida.  Last Saturday UMass made quick work of Newbury College with a 9-0 victory.

To date Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) remains the Beacons top singles player with his perfect 4-0 record at second flight.  Combined UMass has combined for a 21-7 record in singles play, while their doubles play mark currently stands at 9-6.
