NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Little East Conference announced that men’s soccer player Stefanos Galouzis (Watertown, MA) has been named Offensive Player of the Week, while women’s soccer players Samantha Place (Newton, NJ) and Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, MA) have been named Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
For Galouzis, his first conference weekly honor comes after leading the Beacons to a pair of wins, including a 3-0 Little East Conference win over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. To start off the week, Galouzis netted two goals in the 2-0 non-conference win over Becker College. Against Southern Maine, Galouzis assisted the first goal of the match, and then sealed the Beacons first conference win with his goal in the 61st minute. On the year, Galouzis leads UMass and the Little East Conference with eight goals and 18 points. He has also managed two assists as well this season.
Place was also a first-time LEC weekly honor recipient this week as she helped the Beacons to a 1-1 week. The foundation to the UMass Boston defense, Place held nationally ranked Wheaton College (MA) for 108 consecutive minutes in last week’s double overtime match. On Saturday, Place completely neutralized the University of Southern Maine, as they were held to a mere four shots. The Beacons went on to defeat the Huskies by the final score of 4-0.
Ledin’s Rookie of the Week honor is her second straight, as the freshman notched another hat trick against a Little East Conference opponent on Saturday. Ledin, who leads the team and the conference in goals scored with 10 and points with 21 notched two of her three goals in the first 45 minutes of Saturday’s match. She then sealed the victory in the 81st minute on her final goal of the day.
