FARMINGDALE, New York – The University of Massachusetts Boston men’s soccer team continued their winning ways behind junior goalkeeper Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, MA) and freshman midfielder Douglas Silviera (Revere, MA) as the Beacons (2-0) defeated the Rams of Farmingdale State University (2-2) by the final score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Farmingdale Outdoor Sports Complex.
Silviera gave the Beacons the go-ahead and eventual game-winning score in the 34th minute when he blasted a shot in from about 20-yards out. His goal capped off a 14-1 shot advantage for the Beacons in the first half. On the day, UMass Boston tallied a combined 21 shots, while holding the Rams to a mere eight.
For Dowd, his first shutout of the year was the result of a four save afternoon, all of which came in the final 45 minutes of play. The Rams goalkeeper, Matthew Ward, combined for seven saves in the loss.
Saturday’s meeting was the first-ever between the two programs. Farmingdale is also the only opponent from the state of New York that the Beacons will face this season.
