BOSTON, MA - Massachusetts Maritime Academy men's soccer junior defender Jon White (Lynnfield, MA) scored with 9:20 left in regulation to knot the score at 1-1 with host University of Massachusetts Boston. The score held as the teams ended their respective seasons with a tie this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center field on the UMass Boston campus.
The Beacons finish their season with a 4-11-2 mark, while the Buccaneers stand at 7-8-2. The match was a make-up from the originally scheduled match of October 28, which was postponed due to inclement weather.
Freshman midfielder Tim McDonough (Framingham, MA) sent a flip throw-in from the sideline that was headed into the left corner of the back of the net by White at the 80:40 mark of regulation for his third goal of the season for Massachusetts Maritime.
UMass Boston got on the board first when freshman midfielder Ian Ferrari (Mashpee, MA) sent a through ball from the midfield that found senior midfielder Rich Stone (Quincy, MA), who finished with a low shot into the back of the left corner for his first goal of the year at 68:06 to snap a scoreless tie and give the Beacons a 1-0 lead.
The Buccaneers had an excellent opportunity to score in the second overtime when senior defender Matt McDonnell (Marshfield, MA) sent a shot into the right side of the net, but UMass Boston freshman forward Luis Saquich (Marlborough, MA) was there to block it for the home team.
Senior keeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) made eight saves for the Beacons, while freshman goalie Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, MA) stopped 16 shots for Massachusetts Maritime, which was outshot, 25-14 on the day.
