BOSTON, MA - Sophomore forward Cory Walls (Scituate, MA) came off the bench to score the only goal of the afternoon and sophomore keeper Noah Price (Apex, NC) stopped every shot he faced to lead the Emerson College men's soccer team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 1-0, today at the Clark Athletic Center Field on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons fall to 4-8-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 8-7-0.
Senior forward Casey Shane (New York, NY) carried the ball to the endline where he sent a cross to the back post for a header from Walls that found the back of the net with just 2:40 remaining in the first half to give Emerson a 1-0 edge.
UMass Boston threatened early in the first half, when freshman forward Wesley Trevino (Boulder, CO) blasted a shot that Price jumped up and deflected away just 2:18 into the contest. The Beacons had another scoring chance in the second half when sophomore midfielder Igor DaCruz (Cambridge, MA) put a head on a ball in the box, but Price was there for the save at 73:10 of the second half.
Junior goalie Julian Crowder (Salem, MA) made seven saves in his second collegiate start for UMass Boston, while Price stopped five shots to record his first shutout of the season for the Lions, who held a 14-13 shooting edge. The Beacons owned an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, October 24 when it hosts Little East Conference rival Plymouth State University at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center, while Emerson hosts Mount Ida College at 12:30 p.m.
