Rick McCann enters
his ninth season on Coach Berry's staff at UMass Boston.
Since joining the coaching staff at his alma mater, McCann has
helped Berry turn UMass Boston into a postseason contender every
single season. Having worked primarily with the goalkeepers,
McCann has mentored three Little East All-Conference Second Team
selections.
Prior
to joining the sidelines as a coach for the Beacons, McCann was one
of the best goalies in UMass Boston soccer history, posting a
single-season record 0.90 goals against average in 1995 and ranks
second all-time with a career goals against mark of 1.37. McCann
also stands second on the Beacons' career save percentage list with
a mark of .818 and registered an .846 efficiency figure in 1995 for
the third-best percentage in the program's history.
The
Quincy, MA native also ranks on the UMass Boston career list for
matches played (ninth with 22), minutes played (ninth with 2,036),
shutouts (tied for fourth with six) and victories (tied for ninth
with nine).
Prior
to his collegiate playing career with the Beacons, he played two
seasons at Massasoit Community College and was a standout at North
Quincy High School.
McCann earned his
bachelor's degree in criminal justice from UMass Boston in
1997 and currently holds an National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Coach and National
Goalkeeper Diplomas.
