Golden Flyers Fly Past Lacrosse On Spring Break Trip

TAMPA, Fla. – A balanced attack carried the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College to a 26-6 win over lacrosse Monday evening at the University of Tampa in the Beacons first game in Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Flyers used a 17-3 advantage through the first 30 minutes of the contest, which included a 10-goal opening quarter take control of the non-conference tilt.

Kevin Hussey anchored Nazarerth's attack with seven goals, while Drew McNerney finished with five goals and an assist for six points. 

Conor Lenfest (Waltham, Mass.) and Joe Mauceri (Scituate, Mass.) each recorded two-goals against Nazareth.  Mauceri scored the first goal of the contest, but the Beacons were quickly countered by a pair of goals from the Golden Flyers. Joe Meyers (Carmel, N.Y.) evened the score at 2-2.  Unfortunately, from there it was all Nazareth as they scored eight straight goals to take an 11-2 advantage through the opening minutes of the second quarter.

Mauceri would net the lone goal for UMB in the second stanza, while the Golden Flyers added six more tallies to go into the halftime break with a 14-goal advantage.

After the break, the Beacons attack managed just three more goals.  Nazareth sealed the win with nine goals over the final two quarters.

Tim Vinton led all players with 13 ground balls, as he went 18-for-22 on the face-off dot.

Each team featured three goalies in the contest, with the loss for UMB going to Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.), who made 11 stops.  Eric Almquist earned the win after tallying just three stops in the first two quarters.

Matt Murphy (Watertown, Mass.) collected five ground balls to lead the Beacons defensive effort.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • On the night Nazareth outshot the Beacons 60-24 (41-10 in shots on goal)
