BOSTON, Mass. – After a 2-0 week, which included a highlight reel goal freshman goalie Alex Surette (Melrose, Mass.) has be named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/BSN Sports Division III North Defensive Player of the Week.
The freshman from Melrose became the first player in program history to earn the national weekly honor. In the Beacons wins over UMass Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, Surette registered a combined 16 stops and boasted a 64.0 save percentage. In the tight win over the Corsairs, Surette finished with six stops, while against the Panthers he tallied seven, including two huge saves in the third quarter. The win over Plymouth State marked the Beacons first home win over the Panthers since 2007.
Despite his amazing play between the pipes in Saturday's win, it was his game-changing full field goal with just two seconds left in the quarter that stole the show. After making another huge save, Surette launched the ball the length of the field where it landed perfectly in the Panthers goal, just as time expired.
To-date, Surette sits fifth in the Little East Conference in saves (133) and goals against (132).
