Clark University Edges Men's Lacrosse, 10-4

WORCESTER, Mass. – A four goal first and fourth period proved to be the deciding factor as Clark University (4-2) defeated men's lacrosse (1-3) by the final score of 10-4 Saturday evening at Granger Field.

The host Cougars got off to a solid start on Saturday as they scored the first four goals of the contest in the first quarter.  They would then be held to just over the next two periods, which allowed the Beacons to close the gap slightly as they found the back of the net three times making it a three goal game.  Unfortunately the Cougars were able to get four more goals in the final frame to secure the non-conference victory.

Scoring two of the Beacons four goals was freshman Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.).  Also finding the back of the net was Ryan McGoff (Winchester, Mass.) and Ryan Mahon (Commack, N.Y.).  Ryan FitzGerald (Abington, Mass.) and Thomas Petitti (Quincy, Mass.) each tallied one assist.  Eric Collins (Somerville, Mass.) led the Beacons with a combined six groundballs.

In goal freshman Henry Bristol (South Hadley, Mass.) totaled five saves, while senior Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa.) made one in the final minutes of play.

On the night Clark held just a one shot advantage over the Beacons (29-28), but dominated in the groundballs (42-18).  The Cougars finished 2-for-2 on man-up opportunities, while UMass went 1-for-3.

Men's Lacrosse returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Emerson College for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.
