RUTLAND, Vt.—Freshman defenseman Nick Albano (Beverly, Mass.) scored twice to help UMass Boston men's hockey dominate Castleton University 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A night after suffering a 5-0 loss in their New England Hockey Conference opener to Norwich, UMass Boston came back with their most complete performance of the young season. The Beacons outshot the Spartans 55-17, including a dominant 23-3 margin in the first period.
Albano was one of the offensive stars for the Beacons, as he scored twice and added an assist. Sophomore Cody Wickline (Flower Mound, Texas) added the game-winning goal and an assist, while Nolan Redler (Winchester, Mass.) and John Bonno (Kennesaw, Ga.) also found the back of the net.
Four of the Beacons defenseman picked up points in the win, including Gabe Chuckran (Media, Pa.) who had two assists, and freshman Evan Heldt (Sylvania, Ohio) who recorded his first career point with an assist.
In net, Bailey MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass.) stopped all 17 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout.
Castleton netminder Wyatt Pickrell made 50 saves on 55 shots in the loss.
Wickline got the Beacons off to a tremendous start, as the sophomore scored just 2:13 into the contest. Heldt and Daniel Nachbaur (Richland, Wash.) earned assists on the play.
The Beacons beat the buzzer to double up their lead when Redler scored on the power play with six seconds left in the period. Albano and Zack Bross (St. Louis, Mo.) were credited with helpers.
UMass Boston made it 3-0 midway through the second period.This time it was Nachbaur and Chuckran setting up an Albano power-play goal at 12:26.
Albano struck for his second goal 5:20 in the third period, with Redler and Chuckran earning assists.
The Beacons closed out the scoring 1:02 later, with Bonno notching his first goal of the year off passes from Tyler Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) and Wickline.
