NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's basketball player Dontreal Thomas (White Castle, LA) has been named to the Little East Conference All-Rookie Team, it was announced today by the conference. The selections marks the second consecutive season that the Beacons landed at least one first year player on the All-Rookie squad.

Thomas enjoyed a solid freshman season, playing in all 25 games for UMass Boston while starting 11 contests at the small forward position. The White Castle, LA native averaged 19.5 minutes per game for the highest total among rookie players on the squad and amassed a total of 487 minutes played on the year. The 6'6'' forward ended his inaugural campaign averaging 4.8 points to rank fourth on the squad and 3.6 rebounds per game to stand third among teammates. On November 18, Thomas made his collegiate debut in style, scoring 10 points to help the Beacons record a 69-67 victory over Eastern Nazarene. He would score a season-high 12 points on January 8 vs. Eastern Connecticut State on a 6-for-8 shooting performance from the field while also pulling down a team-high five rebounds. Over the season, the rookie was incredibly efficient from the floor, connecting on .415 (51-123) percent of his shots. The forward was also fierce on the glass, grabbing three or more rebounds 17 times on the year including a season-high 10 boards on November 27 vs. Nichols College. On Jan. 13, Thomas was just a pair of rebounds shy of a double-double, recording 11 points and eight rebounds vs. Bridgewater State University. On top of those numbers, he would finish his first season with a total of 18 steals, 11 assists and six blocked shots.

UMass Boston finished the season with an overall 8-17 record, including 2-12 in conference play. The Beacons were also recognized by the conference with the league's Sportsmanship Award for the 2010-11 campaign.
