Men’s Basketball to Host Coaches vs. Cancer Game on Saturday

BOSTON, Mass. – This Saturday, January 26 the men's basketball team will be hosting their annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game in the Clark Athletic Center gym.  The Beacons are scheduled to face Keene State College at 3 p.m., with all proceeds from Saturday's contest to be donated to the American Cancer Society of Boston.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend, now in its 10th year, is a nationwide event when coaches across the country unite for a common cause – saving lives from cancer! Coaches and their staff from both UMass Boston and Keene State will be wearing sneakers with their game attire while coaching games during the weekend to: Raise awareness about the fight against cancer.

At Saturday's contest, UMass Boston will be taking donations throughout the afternoon, and will also be raffling off a ticket prize pack for anyone who gives to this noble cause.  Saturday's event will jump start a variety of other Cancer Awareness games that UMass Boston will be hosting in the coming weeks.

On February 9 the women's basketball team will be hosting their Annual "Pink Game" in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.  On February 15 the women's and men's ice hockey teams will "Pink the Rink" to also show support for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
