WESTWEGO, Louisiana – With 13 of his game-high 21 points coming in the first half, Ryan Milne led Colorado College to a 64-56 non-conference win over men's basketball (4-7) Friday evening on the final day of the 2011 Big Easy Challenge in the Alario Center.
Milne's closed out his team-leading performance on 5-of-15 shooting from the field, and an impressive 10-of-12 shooting at the free throw line. Also helping out the Tiger's win, their second of the week, was Chris Lesnansky who had 20 points, and Ian Rewoldt who had a double-double of 13 rebounds and 11 points. Rewoldt also finished with a game-best seven assists.
For the Beacons, Isaac Jenkins (Pordenone, Italy) led the night with 16 points, while freshman Quadry Allen (White Castle, La.) capped off the two-day tournament with a career-best 14 points. The Louisiana native was 5-for-8 from the field, which included four 3-pointers, all of which came in 17 minutes of playing time. Kadeem Coulter (Boston, Mass.) knocked-down seven points and also managed 11 rebounds to lead UMass Boston on the glass.
On the night both teams were evenly matched as they shot over 38%, with Colorado College (38.8%) holding a slim advantage over the Beacons (38.5%). The Tigers also finished with a +3 advantage in rebounds (36-33).
The first half was a close affair as the two teams battled for control of the scoreboard. Through the first 10 minutes, Colorado held just three-point advantage over the Beacons. However a late run by the Tigers would eventually give them their largest lead of the half, 11 points, on two different occasions.
In the second half, UMass Boston continued to chip away at the Tigers lead actually tying the score multiple times. The final time came with less than four minutes to play when Allen drained a jumper from behind the arc to make it 53-53. Unfortunately, the Tigers would post another late rally to take the win.
Men's Basketball returns to action on January 7 when they travel to Rhode Island College for a 3 p.m. Little East Conference game.
