NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After two standout performances in New Orleans, Louisiana freshman guard Quadry Allen (White Castle, La.) was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office.
Allen's first conference weekly honor of his young career came after averaging 16.5 points per game to help UMass Boston to a 1-1 record at the 2011 Big Easy Challenge. He nailed the game-winning free throw in the 62-61 win over Eastern University (Pa.) in the first game of the tournament to cap off a nine point performance. In the second game, Allen scored a career-best 14 points to lead the Beacons bench. The freshman was 5-for-8 from the field in that game, with four those baskets coming from behind the arc.
The Louisiana native finished the tournament 8-for-16 (50%) from the field, 6-for-13 (46%) from 3-point range, and 1-for-4 (25%) at the line. He also tallied three rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
