NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman forward Brian Clarke (Miramar, Fla.) earned his first collegiate honor on Monday, as the Florida native was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for his standout play last week.
Clarke became the third Beacons player this season to receive the weekly honor, and joins previous honorees Vinny DeLucia (Miami, Fla.) and Cody Edmond (Plaquemine, La.). Senior Isaac Jenkins (Pordenone, Italy) is currently the lone Little East Conference Player of the Week recipient for UMass Boston.
Last week, Clarke was instrumental in leading the Beacons to a 1-2 record which included a huge non-conference win over Lesley University. The 6'6" forward averaged 8.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game as the Beacons also faced nationally ranked MIT and conference rival Keene State College.
Against Lesley, Clarke recorded his first collegiate double-double as he scored 13 points while also pulling down 17 rebounds, both were career-highs for the freshman. In Saturday's conference match-up with Keene, Clarke dropped in eight points to go along with his eight rebounds.
Men's Basketball will be off until December 29 when they face Eastern University (Pa.) as part of the 2011 Big Easy Challenge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
