Shane Mattingly enters his first season as head pitching coach at UMass Boston.
A 2012 graduate from Washington College (Md.), Mattingly had one of the most prolific careers in the program’s history. A 2012 ABCA All-Region and All-Centennial Conference honoree, Mattingly was named Co-recipient of the Thomas Reeder Spedded Medal which is given to the top male athlete at Washington College.
During his senior season, Mattingly tied the school record and led the conference in strikeouts with 93. He also shared the conference lead for fewest batters walked with 11 and closed out the season with a 6-2 record. In 80.1 innings pitched, Mattingly produced one save, a 3.14 ERA, and made a total of 13 appearances (11 starts). As a junior, Mattingly battled through injury to earn All-Conference Honorable Mention honors after posting a 4-3 record in a combined nine appearances (eight starts). In that year he led the bullpen with a 3.21 ERA and strikeouts with 47. In his first season at Washington College Mattingly quickly established himself as one of the top pitchers on the squad earning All-Centennial First Team honors. He posted a 5-2 record, 2.85 ERA, 43 strikeouts, and allowed just 15 walks in 72.2 innings of work.
Before taking over at Washington College, Mattingly played one season at CCBC-Catonsville, where he went 4-0 as a pitcher.
