PAWTUCKET, R.I. – After cruising to their second straight Little East Conference title on Saturday, the fifth ranked Beacons swept the final LEC Weekly awards with Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.), JT Morin (Wilton, Conn.) and Tylor Arruda (New Bedford, Mass.) all earning an honor.
Fowler picked-up Player of the Week honors, after being named the Tournament MVP. The senior first baseman batted .353 (6-17) with two doubles, one home run, four RBI and five runs scored while helping lead the Beacons to their second straight LEC tournament title. The LEC tournament's Most Outstanding Player was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored in a 7-3 win over UMass Dartmouth, went 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer in a 6-1 win over Southern Maine, and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and another driven in in the 13-0 title game win over Eastern Connecticut.
For Morin, his lone appearance of the conference tournament was total dominance. The lefty allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out a season-high 10 batters over seven innings of work. With the win, Morin helped the Beacons eliminated the Huskies from the LEC Tournament, and improved to 6-1 on the year.
Arruda matched his fellow pitcher with a standout performance of his own. In the championship game, the freshman showed veteran composure as he held the Warriors to just one hit in five innings of work. The New Bedford native allowed just one hit and fanned five batters to improve to 2-1 on the year, as well as helping the Beacons win their third title in program history.
