BOSTON, Mass. – The honors continue to roll in for senior first baseman Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.), as he became the first Beacon to be named to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week.
The only other player in program history to earn an NCBWA weekly honor was Kyle Szatrowski '16, who earned Pitcher of the Week honors, after recording the program's first-ever no-hitter on April 25, 2012 in the win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Last week, Fowler hit a team-best .750 to lead the now eighth-ranked Beacons to a 4-0 record. The Barnstable native slugged 1.688, and finished the week with four doubles, one triple, three home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. After going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored in the Beacons first win over Worcester State, Fowler led UMB to the regular season sweep of the Lancers with his three home runs. In the 16-6 rout, Fowler finished 5-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. On Saturday he capped-off the week with two doubles, one triple, three RBI, three runs scored, and was 5-for-9 in the conference sweep of Western Connecticut State University.
