Moquete Earns Spot On ECAC New England First Team
BOSTON, Mass.—While he's all set to don Orange and Black at the next level this summer, UMass Boston baseball senior right fielder Jamill Moquete (Boston, Mass.) picked up one final collegiate award Wednesday, as he was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Baseball All-Star First Team.
Moquete, who was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 32nd round of the MLB Amateur Draft on Saturday, is the second Beacon in program history to be honored by the ECAC. Second baseman Ryan Walsh ('11) was also named to the First Team in 2011 and was named the ECAC New England Player of the Year that season.
The award marks the fourth set of honors this postseason for Moquete, who was named a First Team All-Region selection played by D3Baseball.com and the Little East Conference Co-Player of the Year.
He started in all 41 games this season for UMass Boston and led the team in batting average (.333), on-base percentage (.497), slugging percentage (.563), hits (45), runs (37), runs batted in (29) and total bases (76). Despite being one of the top power hitters in all of New England, Moquete showed great patience as he finished tied for second in the nation with 41 walks, and played in nine less games than Brandon Hannon of Emory who led the country with 43 base on balls.
