Pena Named to Team of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time in program history UMass Boston baseball is represented on the Team of the Week, which recognizes the top performers at each of the nine positions from the previous week.  Earning the weekly honor at the second base position was junior Jose Pena (Boston, Mass.), who led the Beacons to a weekend sweep of Rhode Island College and St. Joseph's College (ME).

Pena had a breakout week for the Beacons as they went 3-2, which included their second straight conference sweep on Saturday.  The Boston native recorded a team-leading .533 average (8-for-15) and a .933 slugging percentage.  In Saturday's win over the Anchormen he went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Against the Monks, Pena posted a career afternoon as he went 4-for-5, with a single, two doubles, and the three-run blast which kick started the Beacons late inning rally and eventual 11-5 win.

Pena was one of three players to represent the Little East Conference on this week's Team of the Week, with Tucker White of Southern Maine and Rew Wilson of Plymouth State also earning the weekly honor.
