Szatrowski Named NCBWA DIII National Pitcher of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman pitcher Kyle Szatrowski (Agawam, Mass.) continues to record program firsts. Last week the lefty earned the program's first no-hitter, this week the Agawam native became the first player in UMass Boston baseball history to be named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher of the Week. He is also the first and only player this season from the Little East Conference to be honored by the NCBWA.
In last Wednesday's history making win over Wentworth, Szatrowski limited the Leopards to four walks while striking out seven in a nine-inning complete-game victory, winning 5-0. He allowed no runner past first base, and retired the final six batters in order to earn his first collegiate victory in only his third career start. Szatrowski was named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, which was also a career first for the pitcher.
Earning the National Player of the Week honor was Tim Saunders of the defending national champions Marietta College.
