AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Led by righty pitcher David Pissauro the Green Terror of McDaniel College (6-3) handed baseball (3-1) their first loss of the season, as he kept the Beacons off the scoreboard on their way to a 12-0 win Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
PIssauro went eight complete innings and allowed just five hits while striking out six batters on his way to his first win of the season. For the Green Terror they combined for 12 hits in the win, and were led by James Chiorello who went 2-for-4 with six RBI. Both of his hits were back-to-back home runs late in the contest.
Having a solid day for UMass Boston was Mark McCormack (Shelton, Conn.) as he tied the single-game record for triples with two. McCormack recorded back-to-back triples in his first two at-bats. He nearly had his third of the game, but was robbed by a diving left fielder.
Senior Mike Mattei (Spencer, Mass.) also put-up an extra-base hit as he notched his second double of the week in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
On the hill Gabe May (Portsmouth, N.H.) was handed his first loss of the season after going four complete innings. During that time, the righty allowed just three runs, one of which was earned, on one hit while also striking out four batters.
Baseball will have a busy day tomorrow as they will face Ripon College (Wis.) at 9 a.m. at Lake Bonny Field in Lakeland. They will then face Washington College (Md.) at 3:30 p.m. at the Chain of Lakes Park.
