NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Little East Conference executive office has announced that volleyball player’s Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) and Molly Witzmann (Encinitas, Calif.) have been named this week’s Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively, while sophomore women’s soccer player Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) has been named Offensive Player of the Week.
Over the weekend, Thompson led the Beacons with a combined 40 kills on 103 attempts (2.86 kpg), while also scoring two aces as part of the two-day four match Pacific Coast Classic Tournament. In the five-set victory over Minnesota Morris, Thompson scored a match-best 20 kills, while also tallying two solo blocks and five block assists in the victory.
For Witzmann her first weekly honor came after leading all Beacon newcomers with 14 kills, 10 digs, and 11 total blocks. The freshman hitter, posted a match-high seven kills, five digs, five block assists, and two solo blocks in the five-set victory over Minnesota-Morris.
On the field, Ledin’s sophomore season proved to be a continuation of her dominating freshman season, as she recorded three goals and two assists in the 6-1 win over MCLA on Saturday. The reigning LEC and ECAC New England Rookie of the Year, Ledin unloaded her sixth career hat trick to get the Beacons season off to a 1-0 start.
