INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – A program best three members of the UMass Boston track and field team have been selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship meet, which will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Qualifying for this year's indoor championship, which will be hosted by Birmingham-Southern College is seniors Dom Nda (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Taylor Driggers (Lisbon, Conn.) and sophomore Wadeline Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti).
After posting a program record time at Saturday's Tufts Last Chance Meet, the Pittsfield native will now compete in the 60-meter dash, as he sits 10th in the country with a qualifying time of 6.89 seconds. This will be Nda's first-ever Indoor National Championship appearance.
Also making her indoor national championship debut will be Driggers. The Connecticut becomes the first female to compete in a field event at the championship meet. Driggers will compete in the long jump, and currently sits fifth in Division III with a qualifying distance of 18-11.75 feet (5.78m).
For Jonathas, she will be competing in a program record four events this weekend. The All-American, who currently holds two indoor national records qualified for this year's championship in the 60-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes. She currently has the fastest time in the country in all three events with times of 7.43, 24.32, and 53.70 seconds respectively. She also leads the country in the long jump with a season-best jump of 20-07.25 feet (6.28m).
Jonathas and Driggers will compete in the long jump on Friday at 12 p.m. EST. The prelims for the men's 60 is scheduled to go off at 3 p.m. EST., while the women's 60 is scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. EST start. The prelims of the women's 400- and 200-meter dashes will begin at 4:25 p.m. EST and 5:30 p.m. EST.
